The historic site was included as a stopping place on the Pinjarra to Picton Junction railway established in 1894. Land for a school site was identified in 1899 and the school commenced operation in 1900. A hall and recreation ground followed years later in 1915. In 1972 the area was finally gazetted as a township after work began on the nearby South Dandalup Dam.
